GA senior wins GlynnDems scholarship

Evan Young of Glynn Academy has been awarded the annual Young Democrat Scholarship for a Glynn Academy student by the Glynn County Democratic Committee.

Young graduated in May with a 3.91 GPA. He won the $500 award with his essay about engaging with political campaigns in 2016 by creating effective social media posts and attending political and community events.

Along with his excellent academic record, Evan also was a keystone performer and technician for the GA Players, Glynn Academy’s drama group. He also has performed for The Island Players in their children’s program and one adult show.

Evan has experience in graphic design and social media. He was closely involved in Julie Jordan’s campaign for State Legislature in 2018.

In a letter recommending Evan for the scholarship, one mentor wrote: “I have never seen a high school student who is filled with so much drive. I know with his commitment, drive and passion, he will further develop his talents and make a name for himself wherever life takes him.”

Evan will attend Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, N.Y., in the fall.

Earlier this year GlynnDems awarded the scholarship for Brunswick High School to Damaria Gurley, who will attend Fort Valley State University in the fall.
